Painting with Light
A series created through controlled lighting and careful compositing
This photograph is part of a larger series of motorcycle images created using light painting. Rather than using a single lighting setup, every final image was built from several individual photographs.
For each composition, the camera remained locked in position while a single light was moved around the motorcycle. Each exposure illuminated a different area, including the fuel tank, engine, wheels, handlebars and chrome details. A red light was also used in the base photographs to illuminate the wall and establish the bold atmosphere of the series.
The strongest sections from each exposure were carefully combined in Photoshop using layers and masks. This gave me complete control over the highlights, reflections and shadows across every part of the motorcycle.
Using the same process across multiple compositions created a consistent collection of images, while allowing the shape, materials and character of the bike to be explored from different angles.
